PROJECT OVERVIEW
Clearaway works closely with Basildon Council to help keep our local community clean. Fly-tipping is when someone dumps rubbish illegally instead of getting rid of it properly. When the council needs dumped waste cleared, our team is ready to help. This time, our grab lorry was sent out to clear yet another fly-tip from the local area.
THE CHALLENGE
Fly-tips are bad news for any community. They look awful, they can block paths and roads, and they can attract rats and other pests. They can also hide sharp or harmful items, so they need to be cleared safely and carefully. The council needed the waste removed quickly, so the area could be made clean and safe again for the people who live there.
OUR APPROACH
We sent out our grab lorry, which is ideal for jobs like this. The grab arm can lift large and heavy loads without our team needing to handle the waste by hand, so the site can be cleared quickly and safely. Once everything was loaded, the waste was brought back to our own site in Basildon rather than being sent straight to landfill.
At our site, the waste goes through the same careful process as every other load. It is shredded into smaller pieces, then our picking team and sorting machines separate out the materials that can be recycled. You can follow the full journey in our guide on what happens to your waste after it’s collected.
A massive thank you to Exact Mix Concrete for capturing this brilliant drone footage of our grab lorry in action. It’s great to see the job from above!
THE RESULTS
Another fly-tip has been cleared, and the area has been left clean and tidy for the local community. The waste was sorted, processed and recycled at our recycling centre in Basildon, so as much of it as possible gets a second life. We’re always proud to work alongside Basildon Council to keep our community cleaner, safer and looking its best.
